ABOUT

CECIL R. PHILLIPS

Educated as an industrial engineer (Georgia Tech, BS 1955, MS 1960), Mr. Phillips first practiced as a consultant to manufacturing firms, construction firms, and government research agencies for
19 years.

He specialized in the design and implementation of management information systems, serving as vice president of an international management consulting firm based in Atlanta. He also assisted clients in strategic planning and management training programs.

He co-authored a leading textbook on project management.
Mr. Phillips left the industrial management field in 1974 to work with nonprofit organizations. He served as executive director and chief fundraiser for a conservation organization for four years.

He later returned to Georgia Tech as associate vice president for communications and development. In that capacity he helped conduct Tech's first capital campaign. The five-year drive reached $202 million, double the original goal.

In 1992 Phillips joined the staff of the LSU Foundation, where he reorganized the University's development program and managed its first capital campaign. The original goal of the six-year LSU Campaign was $150 million in gifts and pledges; it concluded in 2001 with $255 million.

In 2004 Phillips retired as president and CEO of the LSU Foundation. During his 12 years of service the Foundation's assets grew from $60 million to $350 million.

Phillips is an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO), the Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL), Planned Giving Council of Greater Baton Rouge and several civic and cultural organizations.
